Central Texas man arrested after high-speed chase through Montgomery County, Harris County

The Grimes County Sheriff's Office said the man was traveling at speeds above 120 MPH.

GRIMES COUNTY, Texas — The Grimes County Sheriff's Office arrested a man after a high-speed chase on Tuesday, Oct. 29, per report.

On Tuesday, a Grimes County Sheriff's Office deputy pulled over James Leo Harvey, a Plantersville resident, for expired registration at 3:30 p.m., according to the Sheriff's Office. Harvey refused to exit his Toyota RAV 4 when asked to do so. Instead, he accelerated at 100 MPH away from the officer onto Texas State Highway 249, the office said.

As multiple agencies pursued him, Harvey reportedly sped through Montgomery County at speeds above 120 MPH.

Harvey hit two cars - including one with a person inside - after crossing into Harris County, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Texas State Troopers reportedly blocked Harvey's car in Harris County where Louetta Road and Telge Road intersect, but Harvey immediately jumped out and started running, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Officers reportedly used a taser on Harvey after he tried getting away for the second time.

Harvey was booked into the Grimes County Jail for evading arrest detention with a motor vehicle, a third-degree felony, said the Sheriff's Office.

The Grimes County Sheriff's Office thanked Todd Mission Police Department, Harris County Sheriff's Office K9 Units, Harris County PCT 4 Constable's Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety for their assistance.
