TEXAS, USA — Robertson County has lifted the burn ban that was previously in place.
The burn ban was enacted in July after record heat across Texas had dried up soil, giving wildfires a chance to burn. Recently, on Oct. 9, the Texas A&M Forest Service has lowered the Wildland Fire Preparedness Level to Level 1, the lowest of five levels used to describe the conditions and resources around the state available to fight wildfires.
As of Oct. 18, the Grimes County Commissioner's Court has also voted to lift the burn ban that was in place, according to the sheriff's office.
The announcements marks the fourth and fifth burn bans to be lifted in the Brazos Valley area. Earlier this month, on Oct. 5 and 6, Leon, Madison, and Burleson Counties lifted their respective burn bans.
Despite the news, authorities are advising residents to still use caution when burning, and to not leave fires unattended.
