BRYAN, Texas — "We want to make an impact here in Brazos County."
Sgt. Jason James is no stranger to law enforcement.
"I've been with the Bryan Police Department for 21 years, so the stuff I've learned with the police department and law enforcement I want to bring to the sheriff's office," said James, who is running for the GOP nomination for Brazos County sheriff.
James has held many positions during his time with the Bryan Police Department- patrol officer, school resource officer, detective, public information officer, sergeant over the Neighborhood Enforcement Team, just to name a few.
"I have a concept of what's going on and what the needs are in the community, the quality of life in the community," James said. "To bring all of that together to try to push forward the sheriff's office and protect the entire county."
Because of James' experience working as a school resource officer, school safety is a top priority.
"I want to bring that knowledge that I know from being in those school and go into (the schools) and build those partnerships," James said. "Keep it going and come up with innovative ways to help keep the students safe while they're having a learning environment around them."
James believes that the Brazos County Sheriff's Office is a leader in technology in the community. If elected he would like to help keep it that way and always stay one step ahead of criminals. Working with the public is one way to do so.
"Home security systems are a big thing right now," James said. "If we are able to communicate to the public to say, 'Hey, you have the technology now. Lets work together so we can see what is going on.' You might not be a victim in some kind of case, but you might be able to help a case sometime down the road."
James knows that Brazos County is growing. He hopes that he can just aid in making it a larger and safer community.
"I think the growth of Brazos County is going to be a big factor on what goes on in the future," James said.
James is running against Wayne Dicky for the GOP nomination.
The primary election is March 3.
