Deadly tornadoes hit the South Monday

Damaging tornadoes hit the South. At least one fatality reported.

BRYAN, Texas — Severe thunderstorms and tornadoes impacted parts of the South on Monday. Tornado watches and warnings have been issued for parts of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee and Alabama. Authorities in Louisiana confirm one person was killed Monday in Vernon Parish, which is a rural area northwest of Lafayette.

The storm that killed the individual produced a tornado that was believed to be on the ground for more than 63 miles according to the Lake Charles National Weather Service. This storm had a Tornado Emergency message with it, which is the highest criteria for a Tornado Warning. The tornado damaged numerous structures in Alexandria. Extensive damage reports are not only coming in from Alexandria, LA but Edwards, MS was hit hard too. 

The severe threat is expected to continue into the overnight hours for the South. Below is an look at future radar, which tracks the storms progressing south & east into the overnight hours across the South and eventually the Southeast.
