BRENHAM, Texas — Editor's Note: The attached video aired on April 18.
It's been three months since a man hijacked an 18-wheeler and crashed it into the Texas Department of Public Safety in Brenham, causing the death of two and many other to be injured.
Starting next week, on Monday, July 15, a temporary driver license office will be opened at the Blinn College Brenham Student Center, according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The new location will give those in and around Brenham a closer commute for the full, in-person driver license services they might need.
“Members of DPS’ Driver License Division and the entire Brenham community have shown great strength and resilience in the aftermath of the DPS Brenham Station tragedy just a few short months ago,” said DPS Director Steven McCraw. “I thank Blinn College for allowing us to use their student center so that we can best serve customers in the Brenham area.”
There will also be members of the Texas Highway Patrol at the temporary office location, according to Texas DPS.
“I am grateful to the Texas Department of Public Safety and Blinn College for stepping up to create a temporary driver license office in Washington County,” said state Senator Lois Kolkhorst. “This means residents will now have a convenient location to access services from DPS for driver license renewals and other ID services. A local collaboration like this is a shining example of government working together to deliver services until a permanent DPS location is operational.”
Clenard Parker, the man that was responsible for the incident on April 12, was indicted by a Grand Jury on multiple felony charges related to the incident on Tuesday, July 9.
The temporary office is located at 1007 Walter Schwartz Way in Brenham and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The office closes for lunch from noon to 1:15 p.m.
