OnRamp surpasses $15,000 goal for Rudder High School coach Calvin Hill

Less than a week after the organization asked the community for help raising money for a new van for coach Hill, they have passed their goals.

Less than a week after OnRamp, the Bryan-College Station nonprofit that assists those who are mobility impaired with new vehicles and forms of transportation, asked for help raising funds for a new ramp for Rudder High School coach Calvin Hill, their goal has been surpassed.

"Thank you to everyone who donated and shared. Whether you donated $15, $20, $50, $100 or whichever amount it was, YOU made this happen. We are so thankful for each and every one of you," OnRamp said in a Facebook update after reaching their goal. "We are also so proud of a community who comes together to support and rally for each other."

In late 2022, Hill was involved in a major bus accident in College Station where one person was killed and another was injured alongside himself. He ended up needing to have both of his legs amputated.

Some time after receiving a wheelchair ramp from the non-profit, it unfortunately broke. To make matters worse, the company that designed the mechanism to go up and down had gone out of business, meaning an entirely new van would have to be purchased with the ability to get coach Hill's wheelchair inside.

"The next update you will see about the Hill’s is them finally getting in this van and gaining their freedom back once again," the non-profit said on Thursday.
