BRYAN, Texas — Thursday was cold with temperatures well below average for the Brazos Valley. Parts of the area picked up accumulating snow late Wednesday into Thursday morning. The northwestern zone received around 1/4" with isolated 1-2" amounts. The precipitation is long gone but the cold temperatures will stick around overnight Thursday into Friday morning. Friday morning temperatures will dip below freezing. Make sure you have a jacket before you head out of the door.
Friday afternoon begins a significant warming trend. Temperatures will skyrocket into the mid to upper-60s by Friday afternoon under mostly sunny skies. The warm temperatures stick around during the weekend with highs climbing into the mid-70s by Sunday for the entire Brazos Valley.
The weather pattern becomes more active overnight Sunday through next week. A potent upper-level low will dig south across the West and park itself over the Southwest next week. This upper-level low will tap into Pacific moisture, pumping it into the Brazos Valley. Periodic pieces of upper-level pieces will be steered into the area by this upper-level low to the west. The moisture, as well as the upper-level disturbances, will create periodic precipitation chances next week. A cold front late-Sunday/Monday as well as another one late-Wednesday/Thursday will also act to enhance shower & thunderstorm activity across the area.
It's too early to pinpoint exact rainfall amounts but a few inches of rain looks possible for the area from Sunday night through Thursday morning.
