BRYAN, Texas — A cold front slipped south of the Brazos Valley Tuesday afternoon with cooler temperatures (in the 50s & 60s) and widespread cloud cover & light rain. The cold front may try to slightly lift north Tuesday night to near College Station but the northward advancement of the boundary should keep most of the Brazos Valley on the cool side Tuesday night with light drizzle & fog possible into Wednesday morning.
A reinforcing push of cold air will work its way through the Brazos Valley throughout Wednesday. This will drop temperatures quickly into the 40s & 50s by Wednesday evening. Paired with this cold front are strong northerly winds of 20-30 mph. This will drop wind chills into the 30s throughout Wednesday evening. Lingering showers are expected into Wednesday night and warm & moist air is lifted over the dense-cold airmass.
Thursday morning will be downright frigid due to strong northerly winds continuing (the rain will begin to move toward coastal Texas by the time most people head to work Thursday morning). Temperatures will fall into the 30s with a stiff northerly breeze of 15-25 mph. This will allow wind chills to fall into the 20s. A few teen readings are possible near Temple & Waco. The kiddos need the winter gear for the bus stop Thursday morning. The modeled wind chill map below may be slightly overdoing the wind chills for Thursday morning by about 5 degrees.
Halloween evening will be dry but cold. Temperatures will quickly fall into the upper-30s/lower-40s as soon as the sun sets. Fortunately, the wind will begin to die down as well, allowing the wind chills to relax into the upper-30s/lower40-s. It will still be cold so the kiddos need to be bundled up for all of the festivities.
The first light freeze & frost of the season is likely by Friday morning. Much of the Brazos Valley will fall into the low to mid 30s. BCS should see temps near freezing with slightly cooler readings to the north (closer to 30) and slightly warmer temperatures to the south (mid-30s). The very dry Canadian air will help ensure the frost is light. The modeled forecast lows Friday morning may be about 2-3 degrees too warm. As the Canadian high builds in, this should lead to ideal cooling conditions.
Below average temperatures continue into the weekend with highs in the low-60s and low in the upper-30s.
