TEXAS, USA — The first day of summer is Sunday, June 20th, but it won't feel like summer for parts of Texas early this upcoming week. A strong, Canadian cold front will race south Sunday, ushering in a cooler airmass for the Plains. This cooler airmass will have its eyes set on Texas come Monday.

The cold front will move into the Texas Panhandle Monday afternoon, knocking temperatures down into the 60s & 70s and significantly lowering humidity. Ahead of the cold front, temperatures will remain quite toasty. Temperatures will be in the 90s & 100s ahead of the cold front Monday afternoon with heat indices well into the 100s.

The cold front will begin to slow down Tuesday afternoon as it loses upper-level support, which will leave southern and coastal Texas on the warm side of the front with temperatures staying in the 90s and heat indices remaining in the 100s. Behind the cold front, temperatures will be noticeably cooler, in the 70s & 80s due to the cooler airmass paired with increased cloud cover and rain showers. Temperatures will be 5 to 15-degrees below average for most areas behind the cold front.
