BRYAN, Texas — Big weather changes for the Brazos Valley over the next 12-24 hours. A warm, moist airmass is currently in place across the area. However, lurking to the north is a pretty strong cold front. The cold front will remain north of the Brazos Valley Thursday night. This will keep temperatures in the 60s and allow spot rain showers to periodically occur throughout Thursday night and Friday morning.
Shower chances continue into Friday morning and the early afternoon. A few thunderstorms are possible as the cold front moves through the Brazos Valley. Enough instability will be in place for a storm or two to be strong, possibly severe. Strong wind is the main hazard. Isolated tornado & hail threat may exist later in the day Friday east of I-45 but this hazard is extremely low. A marginal risk for severe storms exists for parts of the Brazos Valley Friday.
Rain amounts will be on the light side for the area. Most place will pick up less than 0.25" of rain but a few areas that get under a heavier thunderstorm may pick up 0.50".
After the cold front moves through, temperatures will fall into the upper 40s & 50s by Friday evening with a stiff northerly breeze. Wind chill values will eventually fall into the 30s so make sure you have the light jacket ready if you have any Friday night plans. Friday night football looks to be dry but on the cool side.
The weekend will feature pleasant temperatures. Highs will be in the 60s with lows in the 40s.
