BRYAN, Texas — Lanes along two roads in Bryan will close for road work beginning on Jan. 8, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

TxDOT announced that paving operations are set to begin along FM 158 (William J. Bryan Pky) on Monday, Jan. 8. The south side of the north intersection of FM 158 and Coulter Drive will reportedly be closed to reconstruct the pavement from Jan. 8 to Jan. 12.

TxDOT said daily road closures will be required during the asphalt paving operations around the south side of Sue Haswell Park.

The south zone of FM 158 will be closed to adjust the grade for the final pavement surface from the west side of Sue Haswell Park to Coulter Drive from Jan. 10 to Jan. 12, according to TxDOT. This will reportedly be done with daily road closures during the off-peak hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

TxDOT stated there will be additional closures in the future for various sections along the corridor during paving operations as the roadway is not wide enough for both traffic and paving equipment.

TxDOT encourages drivers to be safe and pay attention to traffic control. Drivers are encouraged to allow for extra time to find alternate routes through the construction.

The construction is expected to be completed in late 2024 or early 2025, according to TxDOT. The project is reportedly contracted to Larry Young Paving, Inc. for $17.5 million.

In addition to the work on FM 158, TxDOT's contractor will also reportedly set up inside lane closures in both directions on Texas Avenue, from 15th Street to Old Hearne Road, also beginning on Jan. 8.

TxDOT said the closures will be to install raised medians and are expected to last approximately three weeks.

TxDOT said the work is part of the larger intersection reconstruction project that is installing new signals at Texas Ave/SH 21 and SH21/FM974.

The $4.2 million project is reportedly also contracted to Larry Young Paving.
