COLLEGE STATION, Texas — A road work project in College Station has been completed multiple months ahead of schedule, according to city officials.
Luther Street reopened on Friday ahead of Texas A&M's first home game in the 2024 college football season, where many fans near and far will flock to College Station for the top 20 matchup in primetime.
City officials say crews with Larry Young Paving in collaboration with city inspector Gage Lopez put in extra time to ensure the water, drainage, and street portions of the Luther Street Rehab project were completed for gameday, allowing for the road to be opened for a major day for the cities of Bryan and College Station.
Despite the good news of Luther Street reopening, there are aspects of the project that still need to be completed. Sidewalk installation, signage, and striping still need to be done, according to city officials. Fortunately, those additional tasks will take about three weeks to be completed.
The city says there will be intermittent one-lane closures on Luther Street during the week for crews to continue their work, but the road will be fully opened on game days for bus routes and other traffic.
