WALKER COUNTY, Texas — The IH-45 northbound and southbound main lanes will close at alternating times at night on Wednesday, May 3 and Thursday, May 4 in Walker County, according to a release from TxDOT.

The closure is to place bridge beams at FM 1374. Road closures will begin at 8 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, with the northbound lanes closing for the bridge beam installation before the southbound lane closures.

TxDOT warns drivers to be cautious when driving through the area. Signage and reduced speed limits will be in the area to inform drivers of the closures.

During the northbound lane closures, traffic will exit at EXIT 144 and stay on the frontage road, and will be able to re-enter IH-45 again before SH-30. Similarly, during the southbound lane closures, all traffic will exit at EXIT 115 and stay on the frontage road, and will be able to re-enter IH-45 south of FM 1374.

TxDOT says the IH-45 southbound main lanes are expected to reopen no later than 5 a.m. the following morning.

The closure is weather permitting, and is part of a larger $200 million reconstruction project of IH-45 that will expand the current four-lane freeway to a six-lane freeway with a concrete median in Walker County.
