Rock Prairie Widening Project to begin on Monday

The estimated completion date of the project is summer 2025, according to the City of College Station.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Editor's Note: The attached video aired in August 2022.

The City of College Station has announced that more road work is coming to parts of the area.

Beginning on Monday, the Rock Prairie Road East widening project will begin, which will change the road from a two-lane roadway to a four-lane concrete road with a median. It's a part of a bond that was approved by voters in the 2022 bond election, which included construction for separated bike lanes, sidewalks, drainage improvements, and street lighting.

The project is estimated to be finished by 2025. Detours will be in place during the road work.

The initial phase will see road closures from Medical Avenue to Bird Pond Road for roughly six months. Afterwards, there will be closures from Bird Pond to Town Lake for about three months. Another phase will include construction on the section from Town Lake to William D. Fitch Parkway.

The city says the plans for the phases following the initial two will be announced at a later date.
