COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Former UTEP WR Tyrin Smith announced on Sunday that he would be committing to Texas A&M through the transfer portal.

The sophomore from Cibolo, TX had over 100 receptions during his two-year stint as a Miner, racking up over 1,000 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 2022 alone. In fact, in all but four of UTEP's games in 2022, Smith was the Miners' best receiver

In 2022, UTEP had a rocky season, going 5-7 overall and 3-5 in Conference USA play.

Similarly, Texas A&M had a turbulent 2022 season, missing a postseason bowl game for the first time since 2008.

Smith will be joining a talented Aggie Wide Receiver room that had key names step up following Anias Smith's season-ending injury following A&M's week-four win over Arkansas in the Southwest Classic. Young talents like Evan Stewart, Moose Muhammad III, Donovan Green, and Jalen Preston all played key roles in keeping the Aggie offense operating despite injuries.

In fact, Anias may return to Texas A&M for the 2023 season, as he has an extra year of eligibility from the COVID-19 pandemic season. He has not made a statement on whether he will return, however.

Tyrin Smith will enter the 2023 season with the Aggies with two years of eligibility remaining.
