Kansas State's Collin Klein set to accept offensive coordinator job at Texas A&M

Klein was a Heisman trophy finalist in 2012, when Johnny Manziel won the award. He's been with the Wildcats in different roles since 2014.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Texas A&M's search for a new offensive coordinator is reaching it's conclusion. According to multiple sources, including TexAgs and KHOU's Matt Musil, Kansas State offensive coordinator Collin Klein is set to join the Aggies in 2024.

Klein has been with the Wildcats since 2014, just two years after his career as a player with the team ended, in 2012. Those who remember that year might recognize that Klein was a finalist in the 2012 Heisman Trophy race, which was eventually won by Johnny Manziel. Klein finished third in the voting behind former Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o.

Klein has been a major name that many high-caliber programs have tried to secure, but have been unable to do so. According to Musil, Penn State--a team that is also in the market for a new offensive coordinator--offered him the same job in State College, but Klein turned the offer down.

Now, A&M will look to Klein to harness some of the offensive potential that has not been tapped into during the past few years, which to many should not be as dysfunctional as it has been given the depth of the talent pool in the Aggie locker room. The offensive line has struggled to keep their starting quarterback from taking major hits, which for the past couple of seasons has resulted in second and third strings stepping into the starting position.

The 2023 season hasn't concluded yet for the Aggies, though. A&M is set to play former Big 12 opponent Oklahoma State in the Texas Bowl on Dec. 27. It's also been revealed that with former offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino no longer with the team, James Coley and Jim Cheney will take up offensive play calling duties for the bowl game.
