NAVASOTA, Texas — The UIL has suspended all athletic activities until at least May 4 to counter the coronavirus outbreak, so Navasota ISD is using the down time to upgrade its athletic facilities.
Athletic Director Casey Dacus says Rattler Field is getting new turf for the first time since it opened in 2007. The track around the field is also being redone. The baseball and softball complex is transitioning from grass to turf. The basketball court is being refurbished and the school is adding eight, new, state-of-the-art tennis courts.
"We felt like it was a great opportunity to go ahead and start so it'll be ready for the summer," Dacus says. "If we can get it done and the virus worries are over, we can use them in our summer workouts."
The original plan was to start the upgrades after graduation.
