HOUSTON — The injury bug keeps on biting the Astros, this time with three-time Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander.
On Tuesday, Verlander was placed on the 15-day injured list with neck discomfort, according to the team. With Verlander sidelined, the Astros called back up right-handed pitcher Nick Hernandez from Triple-A Sugar Land.
So far this season, Verlander is 3-2 with a 3.95 earned run average and 51 strikeouts. He was scratched in his last scheduled start on Saturday, with Spencer Arrighetti replacing him.
Verlander's injury is the latest to the Astros starting rotation. Earlier this month, the Astros lost both pitchers Cristian Javier and José Urquidy for the season. Both Luis Garcia and Lance McCullers have missed the entire season so far.
