COLLEGE STATION, Texas — In the Lone Star State, football is undoubtedly the top sport when it comes to athletic activities, but that doesn't mean other sports can't flourish and find their own crowds of players and fans that find a love in the sport.

For up and coming hockey fans in Texas, that interest has grown over the past several years to a larger level and reached a larger audience, and has certainly been aided by the success of the Dallas Stars in the NHL.

However, for some that have fallen in love with the sport, like those on the Texas A&M Ice Hockey team, they've been making things work in different capacities for many years, especially because for so long, there wasn't readily available access to an ice rink for players to practice and play the sport.

Now, the team is looking for more help to make their operations continue on into the new year with a holiday fundraiser.

Donations will help the team grow by providing opportunities for new players, pay for team travel needs and compete in out-of-state competitions, facility expenses and equipment, and more, according to the donation page. As of Tuesday, a little under $5,000 has been raised to help the team going forward.
