TEXAS, USA — High school football is a big deal in the Lone Star State.
In fact, it's so significant that it's caused some rescheduling of legal cases within one Texas county.
Judge R. Scott McKee of the 392nd District Court of Henderson County announced Wednesday morning that all cases on the Thursday afternoon docket had been rescheduled to a later date due to the Malakoff Tigers — who are based in Henderson County — advancing to the state championship to take on the Franklin Lions.
The Lions are looking to extend their state championship winning streak and continue to pad their impressive resume in Texas high school football history, while Malakoff hopes to make their second ever trip to the state title game a one to remember with a victory and undefeated 16-0 season.
Franklin will roll into Arlington with a 14-1 record, only tarnished by a last-second field goal in a thrilling match against Lorena in the regular season. The two teams faced off again in the regional final, with the Lions coming out on top to get their revenge against the Leopards.
That's not to say that Malakoff had an easy road to the state championship either, as the Tigers had to stage a comeback in their playoff match against the Brock Eagles to win a thrilling 38-31 game with less than 20 seconds left to play.
Kickoff for the Lions-Tigers game is set for 3 p.m. on Thursday.
