CAMERON, Texas — On Monday night, Cameron ISD announced Aaron Babino as the district's new head football coach and athletic director.
He will succeed Rick Rhoades, who vacated the spot after his second stint with the Yoemen in February.
During his last five seasons at DeSoto, he has been a part of the Eagles' rise to the top of Texas high school football, winning two state championships in 2022 and 2023. In the latter year, he was also named the THSCA Region 3 Assistant Coach of the Year.
The Yoemen also have a stint at the top of the high school football ranks themselves. During Rhoades' time in Cameron, the team had multiple state title game appearances, with clinching three titles from 2012 to 2014.
Babino himself is a graduate of the University of Texas, and played linebacker for the Longhorns from 1996 to 1999.
