COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Right now, all options are on the table for making sure a college football season happens.
Due to COVID-19, the SEC has cancelled athletic events including team gatherings through at least May 31. And don't forget, all spring practices have been canned too.
The big question everyone is trying to tackle right now, "What key date needs to be circled on the calendar in terms of programs returning to normal activity so the 2020 campaign can start on time?"
Is it June 1? Is it July 1?
So far, the general consensus is players will need some sort of conditioning and acclimation period before actual football practice can take place.
With that said, for fall camp to begin as scheduled during the first week of August, Aggie head coach Jimbo Fisher said during a recent interview on SEC Network that players would need to back on campus and begin workouts by early July.
In terms of hype leading up to the 2020 season, expectations in Aggieland have to be pretty high.
Not only is coach Fisher going into his third year, but quarterback Kellen Mond is about to be a four-year starter.
No other SEC team can stake that claim. In fact, over the weekend, SEC analyst Jordan Rodgers called Mond the best QB in the league.
However, for that to ring true, the signal caller must be more consistent and take the the next step forward.
