COLLEGE STATION, Texas — College Station has made it to the final bidding round to host the NAIA Softball World Series in 2021 and 2022.
“NAIA is a collegiate athletic association made up of about 216 institutions across the United States and Canada, we specialize in small college athletics so we’re looking for a home for our ten team softball world series,” said NAIA Senior Manager of Championship Events Marc Burchard.
The final vote for hosting the series will be between College Station, Texas and Columbus, Georgia. NAIA says it's all about the student athlete experience and the community atmosphere that the cities can offer.
“The wow factor that the stadium is going to bring… Texas A&M has that wow factor as well, all the tours, all the history here, all the athletics I think is very appealing to student athletes,” said Burchard.
Experience Bryan College Station predicts a world series like this could bring an impact of nearly $400,000 to our community here in the Brazos Valley.
“This is a huge impact, with people spending money in our hotels, our restaurants, and shopping. They’re going to have to get their jerseys washed, so just spending all their time and funds in our community is huge. But then people coming to town for the first time and seeing it, wanting to come back, the exposure to Texas A&M and all of our other community assets that we have," said Experience Bryan College Station Sports and Events Manager Courtney Fegter.
The final decision will come by the end of February. If College Station is chosen, the series be held on A&M's Davis Diamond.
The tournament is seven days and will take place around Memorial Day.
