Here's another way to see the eclipse if clouds are going to block your view

Nearly all of the U.S. will likely be covered by clouds and rain on Monday, April 8.

By now you should know that the eclipse will be getting some shade from Mother Nature.

Nearly all of the U.S. will likely be covered by clouds and rain on Monday, April 8. So if watching the eclipse from dry land is no longer an option, what's the alternative?

Head to the clouds.

Dallas-based JSX is one of the charter jet services chasing the eclipse. Ben Kaufman, the marketing and communications director for JSX, said their jet is going to get to a normal cruising altitude, about 30,000 feet or so, and follow the phenomenon.

“You can actually follow it (the eclipse) for quite some time for hundreds of miles and see not just how it affects the ground, but how it affects what you can see in terms of shadowing and in the distance," Kaufman said. "It's just a completely different perspective.”

Several U.S. airlines also have eclipse flights. They just so happen to be regularly scheduled flights overlapping parts of the eclipse path.

One of those airlines is Southwest Airlines

“Three flights that would be taking off during the eclipse and that they would be flying within the path," said Dan Landson, a spokesman with Southwest Airlines.

All of the airlines flying during the eclipse seem to be offering a party atmosphere with appropriately named drinks and snacks like Moon Pies and Sun Chips.

“The cool thing about Southwest is we like to have fun with our customers," Landson said "They're going to be able to get their own specially branded glasses.”

The ticket prices didn't escalate for these flights because they were already scheduled out. The flights just so happen to be in the eclipse path.

JSX is not charging for its eclipse flight. Twelve of its 30 seats will go to lucky lottery winners. The rest will go to students to encourage aviation careers.

“It was really important to us to ensure that we kept this as an experience that everyone had an equal chance to get on board," said Kaufman.
