After looking at the amount of crashes and speaking with residents, TxDOT plans to make the intersection more efficient and safe by creating more lanes, a raised median, and turn around. Although the hearing was held to take comments on the more than 6 million dollar project, many locals came out to discuss another intersection off 1774 that recently took the life of a local volunteer firefighter.
"I'm just really concerned about the traffic, the accidents we've had on FM 1774 and how it's affecting our community and the loss of a life,” says Opal Bennett, who grew up in Grimes County.
"I don't think it should be 70 miles per hour there. If we get a stop light, a four way stop sign, anything to help something like this from not happening again,” says Tanya LaFlash, a Plantersville resident.
TxDOT says they do not have an immediate solution to the concerns about the FM 1774 and County Road 302 intersection but they say it is in the forefront of their minds and people can voice their concerns about it by contacting TxDOT and their local county judges.
