NAVASOTA- All things Texas, that's what the city of Navasota is going for as they prep for their annual birthday bash.
"The state of Texas gained there independence on March 2nd 1836, I think. It was right across the river at Old Washington,” says Buck Isbell, who is from the local lions club and is selling food at the bash.
"This is the first big event that we've had and we understand with good weather there is going to be lots of people here tonight and we are looking to sell lots of Frito pies and nachos,” says Isbell.
Growing up in Navasota, he enjoys giving back to the community .
"We normally make a few thousand dollars a year and we contribute that to various non-profit organizations around town,” says Isbell.
Although it is a bit chilly out, the city of Navasota hopes to beat their attendance record which was six thousand people last year.
“I think having the Texas based bands this year is really going to help a lot. These are the guys that go to the honkey tonks and have a following around here. I think that's going to help us,” says Tiffany Byer, who does marketing and special events for the city of Navasota.
JB and the Moonshine Band, Aaron Watson, and Wade Bowen are some of the many bands performing.
"The vender show is new, the chili cook-off is new, the craft beer tent is new. So we've added a lot of things from last year so we're hoping for an even bigger attendance,” says Navasota Mayor Bert Miller.
"I think it brings the community together, a lot of the participation that we saw last year, looks like there is going to be more this year,” says Roger Douglas, the owner of Texas Cook-Out Company.
"It's one of the best events we could have because it's one of the big events for Texas and we are right here at home where it all started,” says Isbell.
Because if everything is bigger in Texas, they've got to go "big" to celebrate 179 years of independence.
The birthday bash is free and begins at noon tomorrow.
