BRYAN, Texas — The first Wednesday of April marks National Walking Day

Sponsored by the American Heart Association, National Walking Day was formed to remind people how walking is helpful to your overall health, fighting high blood pressure and heart disease.

Experts say people should get in 10,000 steps or about five miles of walking each day.

For people who don't feel they have the time for all that walking every day, there are a few pretty easy ways to sneak those steps in.

Park farther away from your errands. Mow the lawn or vaccum to get walking and finish a chore at the same time!

Or, just take the stairs or opt for ditching email and walking on over to your coworker to tell them what's going on.

You can earn about 60 steps a minute if you opt for that face-to-face contact at the.

But if you do get some time to walk, there are plenty of places in the Brazos Valley to do so.
