DEARBORN, Mich. — Ford is recalling more than 30,000 Mustangs over a steering gear issue that could cause the impacted vehicles to move without warning.
The recall affects certain Mustang models from 2022 and 2023. A total of 30,735 vehicles are potentially impacted by the steering issue.
"Unintended steering assist can lead to loss of vehicle control while driving, increasing the risk of a crash," the company said in the notice.
Owners will be notified by mail and those impacted by the recall are instructed to take their vehicle to a local Ford dealership to have the Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) software updated, free of charge.
Pickup and delivery service is also available at participating dealerships. Ford notes that they're not aware of any reports of injuries.
“Our goal is to prevent quality issues from happening in the first place. When they do occur, our focus is on responding quickly with a recall or service action to prevent our customers from experiencing issues with the least inconvenience possible. We are committed to improving our launch quality and long-term quality and are already starting to see improvements in both," the company said in a prepared statement.
