Elon Musk searches for X office space in Austin

The billionaire is looking for a new location for his business' headquarters.

AUSTIN, Texas — Businessman and billionaire Elon Musk is continuing to expand his footprint in Texas.

On July 16, Musk announced his company X, formerly known as Twitter, would be moving its headquarters from California to Austin.

Now, the CEO is reportedly looking for available office space in the Texas capital, according to a report from the Austin Business Journal (ABJ).

Commercial real estate company JLL has reportedly been working with its executive vice president to help X find its newest location. However, the ABJ said sources did not confirm this claim.

Musk is allegedly searching for a building with approximately 100,000 square feet, which could hold at least 600 people, if not more.

Currently, JLL said Austin has a vacancy rate of approximately 25%. According to its website, there are currently 34 available industrial rental properties, ranging from 1,600 square feet to just more than 434,000 square feet.

This isn't Musk's only endeavor based in Texas. In his recent announcement, he also stated his astronautics company, SpaceX, will be moving to Brownsville, Texas.

According to Musk, the decision was made in response to the passage of Assembly Bill 1955, which was recently passed in California. The law allows LGBTQ+ students to "express themselves freely at school without fear, punishment or retaliation, including that teachers or administrators might "out" them without their permission."

In a post made on X, Musk claimed the law was "the final straw."

Some of his other businesses, including Tesla and the Boring Company, are already located in Central Texas.

With the addition of X and SpaceX, new jobs could be on their way. However, it is still uncertain when Musk will make the official move.
