COLLEGE STATION, Texas — This Saturday Texas A&M students, family, and friends will be able to get a glimpse of the galactic experience that will light up the sky.— The annual solar eclipse.
A&M has been offering free eclipse viewing glasses to only Texas A&M students, yet welcoming anyone to join their watch party. A limited amount will be offered to students at select times before the galactic spectacle.
The watch party will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the east quad, which is located on A&M's campus between the Liberal Arts and J.K. Williams buildings. The eclipse itself will happen between 10:35 a.m. and 1:34 p.m. and the maximum totality will happen from 11:55 a.m. to 11:57 a.m.
A must-see spectacle in the sky, according to A&M student, Kaliegh Carrell who will be experiencing the viewing for the time. She shared how she missed the opportunity when in high school and how happy she is that A&M is allowing them the experience this event.
"I just didn't get to see it because I was in school," said Carrell. "But now we're gonna try to find a cool place on campus to just have fun and see it. I think it's amazing that they take the time to even think of stuff like this. "
For non-A&M students, you can purchase proper viewing glasses at H-E-B for $1.49.
If you can't make it you can see the eclipse wherever you are by watching it live on NASA's website. If you miss Saturday's solar eclipse you will have another chance to view an eclipse in April. After that, the next eclipse event won't be visible in the U.S. until 2046.
