COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Texas A&M Board of Regents have announced that they will be holding a special meeting at 10 a.m. to "discuss and possibly name a sole finalist" for the position of President of the university.

The meeting will be a phone meeting, and open session portions of the meeting can be viewed online.

According to a Monday report from The Texas Tribune, Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp will recommend to the Board of Regents that current interim President Mark Welsh III be named the sole finalist for the position.

He has been interim president since late July, which was sparked by the events around the botched hiring of Kathleen McElroy put the university in the national spotlight and eventually resulted in the resignation of former president Kathy Banks.

In the report, Sharp said he was pleased with the direction that the university was going under Welsh's leadership.
