COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Over the years, some Texas A&M students have gone to lengthy efforts to get some of the best seats at high-profile sporting events, setting up temporary places to sleep while they went to their classes throughout the week.
However, the rules surrounding students being able to camp out for tickets will be changing, starting after A&M's week one game against Notre Dame. The Texas A&M Division of Student Affairs officials announced on Monday that ticket pull lines could only form after 6 a.m. on the Sunday before ticket pull that week.
Ticket pulls begin with seniors and graduate students on Monday, working to juniors, sophomores, and freshmen in the subsequent days.
The policy, which A&M officials say is for the safety of students camping out for tickets, restricts the fire lane in front of Kyle Field from being blocked, and puts requirements on the types of tents and portable furniture that can be brought out. Electric power generators and alcohol will not be allowed, but portable toilets will be placed in the plaza.
There will also be student organizations that will conduct "line checks" to ensure those camping out haven't left the area.
The policy will officially go into effect on Tuesday, Sept. 3, which is the week that Texas A&M welcomes McNeese State to Kyle Field. The one-day delay in implementing the policy is due to Labor Day. Additionally, university officials have noted that tickets for the highly anticipated Lone Star Showdown will take place the week prior to the game due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
The Aggies will welcome the Fighting Irish and College GameDay to town on Aug. 31 in a highly anticipated top 20 match to kick off the Mike Elko era in Aggieland. The game will be broadcast in prime time after the conclusion of the Miami-Florida game taking place earlier that afternoon.
