COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen. Comet and Cupid, and Donner and Blitzen, but do you recall these reindeer may be female after all?

At least, according to Dr. Alice Blue-McClendon. She's a professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, and explains reindeer are the only type of deer in which both males and females grow antlers.

"So according to legend, it's very possible that Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer was a female," Blue-McClendon said. That goes for the rest of Santa's sleigh team, too.

The professor has studied deer for 30 years, and was part of the Texas A&M team behind Dewey, the first cloned deer, back in 2003.
