Drowning of two-year-old in Grimes County prompts investigation from Sheriff's Office

Authorities initially went to look for the child around 3 p.m. on Sunday after he was reported missing, but found that he had drowned in a small pond.

NAVASOTA, Grimes County — The Grimes County Sheriff's Office has launched an investigation into an incident involving a two-year-old boy that drowned on Sunday.

That day around 3 p.m., authorities were asked to help find a boy that had gone missing from Knob Hill Road in Navasota. A short time later after the search began, the boy was found unresponsive in a small drainage pond several hundred yards away from a home.

First responders attempted to resuscitate the boy, and later took him to St. Joseph's Hospital in Navasota in an attempt to save his life, but were unable to. The child was eventually pronounced dead.

Authorities say they are continuing to investigate the incident, which is pending autopsy results.
