NAMI Brazos Valley offering Mental Health First Aid training

BRYAN, Texas—The National Alliance on Mental Illness Brazos Valley (NAMIBV) is offering Mental Health First Aid training this weekend in response to Governor Abbott’s School Safety Action Plan.

The eight-hour training will equip participants with the skills to help someone who might be experiencing a mental health crisis, including learning how to recognize the signs and symptoms of a mental illness.

The training will also help participants understand how to prevent a mental health crisis and how to respond to one should one occur.

NAMI will be offering the Mental Health First Aid training at no cost to all employees, staff, and teachers of school districts located in the Brazos Valley.

This year, NAMI is also offer the training for free to higher education employees at Blinn College and Texas A&M University.

For any other resident who would like to take the class, the cost is $100.

The Mental Health First Aid training is being offered in response to Governor Abbott’s School Safety Action Plan proposed after the shooting at Santa Fe High School on May 18th.

The training will be held from 8:30-3:30 p.m. on Saturday at the NAMI Brazos Valley Office, 3705 S. College Avenue in Bryan.
