BCSO: 2 dead, 5 hospitalized after becoming trapped underneath large mobile home that collapsed

According to the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office, a 17-year-old boy and a 31-year-old man died as a result of the collapse.

BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas — A minor and an adult have died and several others were hospitalized after a large mobile home collapsed Sunday afternoon, according to the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office.

It happened on County Road 42 about five miles north of Angleton in Brazoria County. Around 5:03 p.m., the sheriff's office said they got a call saying a mobile home that was being leveled collapsed.

According to BCSO, family members working at the home were reported to be trapped underneath the structure. Multiple agencies responded to the scene.

The sheriff's office said some jack equipment may have failed. According to investigators, there was not a leveling company on-site at the time of the collapse. They also said it didn't appear that anyone was actually inside the house while it was being leveled.

Five people were rescued from beneath the structure. Four were transported by helicopter to Houston-area hospitals and another person was transported to an area hospital via ambulance.

As of noon Monday, these were the conditions of those who were involved:

  • 15-year-old male was in critical condition
  • 16-year-old male was stable
  • 15-year-old female was stable
  • 38-year-old female was stable
  • 42-year-old male released from hospital

BCSO said a 17-year-old boy and a 31-year-old man died as a result of the collapse.

According to BCSO, they had to use a chainsaw to cut through the floor of the home to get one of the victims.

The sheriff's office is investigating the incident.
