BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas —
Usually around this time, The Salvation Army would be hosting their annual “Doing The Most Good” fundraising luncheon to raise money for the organization’s year-round assistance programs at the Hilton College Station & Conference Center Hotel. But because of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s fundraiser is going to look a little different.
The Salvation Army is supporting those in need now more than ever, which is why they have decided to stream their annual luncheon live on Thursday May 7 at 12:00 P.M.
The virtual fundraiser will include many elements seen at past “Doing The Most Good” luncheons, including the 2020 featured speaker, retired Brigadier General Joe E. Ramirez, the Commandant of the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M University, and a COVID-19 services update from Captain Paul Ryerson. There will also be an online auction to raise money for the organization’s year-round assistance programs including the food pantry, rent/utility assistance, emergency disaster services, Christmas assistance, character building programs for the youth, along with a few other services.
“We have all been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and The Salvation Army is no different,” said Captain Ryerson, commanding officer of The Salvation Army in Bryan/College Station in a press release. “We have experienced a heightened need in recent weeks as more and more people have come to us for assistance; having been furloughed, had hours cut or been laid off...We have continued to serve the community throughout this crisis... we are confident the community will rally around the cause and embrace this virtual opportunity”.
Last year, The Salvation Army BCS was able to raise $185,000 for its local programs.
