Inmate in Brazos County Sheriff's Office custody dies at local hospital

The Sheriff's Office said there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances around the death, but the Texas Rangers will conduct an investigation.

BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas — A man has died at a Brazos County hospital while in the custody of the Brazos County Sheriff's Office, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office stated that a 69-year-old inmate died at St. Joseph's Hospital in Bryan, Texas at 1:18 p.m. on Nov. 6.

According to BCSO, the man requested medical assistance at around 7:25 a.m. and was transported and admitted to the hospital, where he reportedly died of "medical complications".

BCSO said there "does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding this event," but the death will be thoroughly investigated by the Texas Rangers as is standard for in-custody deaths.

The Texas Jail Commission has been notified as required, according to the Sheriff's Department. They also said a Custodial Death Report will be forwarded to the Texas Attorney General upon completion of an internal investigation conducted by the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office and an independent investigation conducted by the Texas Rangers.

The Brazos County Sheriff's Department offered their thoughts and condolences to the family and loved ones of the man.

No further information has been provided at this time.
