UPDATE: Person of interest named in College Station homicide investigation

Investigators said a person of interest has been in jail for more than a week.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — UPDATE: The College Station Police Department has identified a person of interest as Ricardo Ramirez, 23, who is currently in jail on unrelated charges. Investigators said he was found with property which they believe is linked to the scene.  

College Station Police are still asking for anyone with information to contact law enforcement or Brazos County Crime Stoppers.

Brazos County Crime Stoppers and College Station Police Department are asking for any information you might know relating to the homicide investigation.

Officer Tristen Lopez with the College Station Police Department has confirmed the suspicious death is now being investigated as a homicide.

Officer Lopez has also confirmed the victim has been identified as 20-year-old Ashli Stewart. Her family has been notified and more details are expected shortly.

College Station Public Information Officer, Tristen Lopez, told KAGS News Tuesday that while the department is investigating a suspicious death at a local apartment complex, he does not believe the public is in danger.

The call for help came in just before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Officers responded to the 1300 block of Harvey Mitchell Parkway and Holleman Drive after a person was found unresponsive at an apartment complex. College Station police and members of the crime scene investigation unit arrived on scene and taped off the area.

Police have not released any more information on the investigation, except to say it is now "suspicious" in nature. It is not clear who the victim is, but loved ones of the victim were at the scene. More information is expected to come at a later time.
