College Station Mayor declares Oct. 15-21 as "College Station History Week" ahead of city's 85th anniversary

The announcement is ahead of the city's 85th anniversary since becoming a city, which took place on Oct. 19, 1938.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The story of College Station goes back to October 19, 1938, when the citizens voted 217-39 to incorporate College Station. Today the city is nearing its 85 anniversary and ahead of that anniversary, the city will be throwing a free anniversary celebration.

Next Wednesday, Oct. 18, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. you can head over to College Station City Hall for a night of fun. There will be food trucks and exciting raffle prizes worth up to $85. Of course, no birthday celebration is complete without some cake which will be provided to guests. 

Guests will also be able to challenge themselves by participating in a scavenger hunt. The hunt starts at the party but doesn't end until Nov. 3, 2023. For people unable to make it to the birthday bash you can still participate in the scavenger hunt by swinging by city hall to grab yourself a booklet of clues. If you can complete the hunt before the end date you could win a prize!

You also have a chance to be a part of that history by loaning one of your own artifacts to be displayed. The city is looking for artifacts that help tell the story of College Station, you can find the details and specifications on their website.
