COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The City of College Station is being recognized for its music talents that the city has fostered and allowed to blossom into major performing artists over the years.
On Thursday, Nov. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at The Tap, Representatives from the Governor's Texas Music Office will present a Texas Music Friendly City designation to Visit College Station. The city was announced as a Designated Music Friendly Texas Certified Community on Oct. 26.
“Congratulations to the City of College Station on earning the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation,” Gov. Greg Abbott said in an announcement on the Texas Music Office website. “Music is key to the Texas brand and is deeply rooted in the cultural traditions of our great state. Music Friendly Texas Communities, certified by the Texas Music Office, work hard to attract and develop the local music industry to boost job creation and economic growth.”
With the designation, the City of College Station joins 50 other communities throughout the Lone Star State that have been certified as a Music Friendly community.
“We are genuinely honored to be designated as a Music Friendly Texas Community,” said Mayor John Nichols in that same announcement on the Texas Music Office Website. “The music industry is a tremendous catalyst for attracting young, skilled workers and business investment while enhancing our economy, quality of life, and our city’s brand and image. College Station has developed a vibrant and growing live music scene with a storied musical history, producing such prominent artists as Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen. The former Texas World Speedway was also the site of the second Willie Nelson 4th of July picnic in 1974.”
The Tap is located at 815 Harvey Road in College Station.
