Burleson County Sheriff's Office warn residents of scammers calling residents regarding won gift card

The scammers are reportedly telling residents that they have won a gift card and need to call another number and provide banking information to claim the prize.

BURLESON COUNTY, Texas — The Burleson County Sheriff's Office is letting residents know about another scam that they've been made aware of.

The scam involves a caller requesting banking info from the person they are trying to scam because they have won a gift card from a store like Walmart. The caller may also leave a message advising the person they are trying to scam a number to call back to state that they've won the gift card.

The person on the other end of the number will inform the person that they need to provide sensitive personal information like banking info in order to verify the win. Authorities urge those that may find themselves in this situation to not provide the info.

The sheriff's office says they expect the phone number that has been calling residents to chance once they realize that authorities have spread the word about their scam. They also advise anyone with questions or concerns to get in contact with them.

The Burleson County Sheriff's Office can be contacted by phone at 979-567-4343.
