Bryan Police retires canine from force

Kohn has served the community of Bryan for 9 and a half years.

K9 Officer Kohn is an 11 and a half year old Belgian Malinois from Holland.

Kohn was born in April of 2007 and came to America in October of 2008. After an intense 4 month training course, Officer Hanks, now Sergeant Hanks, and Kohn began patrolling the streets of Bryan in February 2009.

Kohn has served the community of Bryan for 9 and a half years.

Kohn has dedicated his life to serving the City of Bryan, the Bryan Police Department, and neighboring law enforcement agencies.

In June 2009, K9 Kohn competed in the Texas Police Games where he won two silver medals.

In 2013 Kohn had the privilege of training with the Naval Special Warfare Multi-Purpose Canine (MSW-MPC) Group 2 and US Navy SEALs in Virginia Beach, Va.

During his career he has had the opportunity to train with and or deploy with Federal, State, and Local agencies; FBI, Postal Inspector, Arkansas State Police SWAT, Brazos Co. SO, CSPD/SWAT, Texas DPS and UPD.

K9 Kohn has had over 300 real world deployments during his career. K9 Kohn has also been instrumental in educating and entertaining various community groups by participating in over 200 demonstrations during his career.

He has represented the Bryan Police Department at numerous Texas A&M events, both English and Spanish Citizens Police Academies, Boy Scout groups and public and private schools throughout the county.

Kohn will enjoy his retirement as he continues to live with his handler Chad Hanks.

On Feb. 8 at 3:00 p.m., the Bryan Police Department is honoring K9 Kohn with a retirement ceremony.

The ceremony will take place at the Criminal Justice Center. The public is welcome to join in celebrating the career and retirement of K9 Officer Kohn.
