Bryan elementary shares heart felt message with veterans

BRYAN, Texas - Knowing people are thinking about you can lift anyone's spirit. This Valentine's Day the kids at Sul Ross Elementary want local veterans to know they are thinking of them.

"I love everyone around me and all the veterans because I feel like I am thanking them for all they have done for me and our country," said Sul Ross student Izzy Martin.

More than 500 handmade cards, all sharing their gratitude for our Nations veterans as part of a program called Valentines for Vets.

To the children a simple note showing their appreciation and heart felt messages, but for the veterans so much more.

"Their enthusiastic and they make you feel very proud to be a veteran and to come visit these young children," said US Marine Corps veteran Doug Tennis.

Messages meant to bring cheer to the veterans but the impact equally felt by the students.

"We feel our presence may give them some understanding of the history and battles that were fought before they were born," said US Army veteran David Marion.
