Bryan based company joins forces with Chinese company to provide economical pharmaceuticals

The bio tech world is full of high value often secretive science.

BRYAN, Texas - The bio tech world is full of high value often secretive science. The Bryan based company iBio pulled back that curtain yesterday, announcing they'll join forces with a Chinese based company to create vaccines and other medications.

With the advancement of technology over time, methods of producing various vaccines and therapeutic pharmaceuticals have improved significantly.

“This is part of the future of the whole pharmaceutical industry. Plants can produce very complex biological molecules like proteins and can do it faster and more efficient than some of the older methods that are commonly used,” said iBio President Robert Erwin.

For iBio, the last eight years have been about working to stay at the forefront of the pharmaceutical industry through the development and manufacturing of plant-based biopharmaceuticals.

“As we succeed with some of the smaller projects and our smaller clients become big companies, it will draw a lot of attention to college station over time,” said Erwin.

iBio of Bryan,Texas is now collaborating with CC-Pharming of Beijing, China which specializes in plant molecular medicine.

“Two small companies are coming together and going to become stronger,” said CC- Pharming Founder Kevin Wang.

The partnership will allow a more economical method of providing medicine to those in less developed areas of the world.

“Using plants we can produce a less expensive product and also speed up this protein production process,” said Wang.
