Brazos County Sheriff's Office requests more deputies

BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas - The Brazos County Sheriff's Office is working to get more deputies out on the streets. Patrols have been on the uptick in the last three years. Last year, officers responded to more than 30,000 incidents.

Now, Sheriff Kirk is asking the Commissioner's Court to approve funding for two additional deputies. Hiring both officers would cost almost $150,000, plus the cost of a patrol car and equipment.

"People who are off for vacation or sick time or holiday time or training, then it leaves us short," said Sheriff Kirk.

The additional deputies are just a few of the things the sheriff's office is requesting. Kirk says the agency also needs more staff at the detention center and a new training facility. The sheriff's office should find out if their requests will be met this fall.
