BRYAN, Texas — A Brazos County Jail inmate receiving treatment from St. Joseph's Hospital in Bryan passed away Wednesday morning, according to the Brazos County Sheriff's Office.
Earlier in the week, on Monday, the 61-year-old inmate was taken to the hospital around 8:34 a.m. to get additional treatment on a pre-existing medical condition and admitted. Two days later, on Wednesday, it was reported that the inmate experienced an "acute medical event" around 7:36 p.m.
Hospital staff attempted to save the inmate's life, but he passed away at 8:09 p.m. that same day.
Authorities said there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the inmate's death, and say that routine steps are being taken following the death of an inmate, including notifying the Texas Jail Commission, launching investigations by officials and the Texas Rangers, and having a Custodial Death Report be forwarded to the Texas Attorney General once the investigation has concluded.
