COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Blackwater Draw announced in a Facebook post Monday it will close its Northgate location May 13th.
Owner of Blackwater Draw, Chris Steele, says the decision to close was a hard one, based on the rising cost of rent and property taxes in the area.
"At the end of they we had to figure out if we sign another lease for five years and hope sales will increase," he said. "Or do we play it safe?"
Steele said the restaurant served brunch yesterday, but after, he met with his 30-40 staff members and told them the news.
Fans of the local craft brewer need not worry, they plan on focusing more attention on the Bryan location, and continue brewing their signature lagers, porters and ales.
"We are fortunate to continue this passion," he said.
And the idea to serve food in the the Bryan locations, isn't off the table quite yet. Steele said while they don't have a timeline on what is to come in the future, he said they are researching a lot of options.
