COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Canadian Football League (CFL) announced, Wednesday, that it has banned former Texas A&M star quarterback Johnny Manziel.
The ban came just after the Montreal Alouettes released Manziel, saying he had violated his contract with the team.
"We are disappointed by this turn of events. Johnny was provided a great deal of support by our organization," said Alouettes General Manager Kavis Reed in a statement released by the CFL.
In a tweet, authored shortly after his release, Manziel thanked CFL fans and said he was looking forward to exploring new options in the United States.
