MENtion IT! Brazos County Health Department to host free event for men with health questions

The event will be held by male medical professionals and will allow men to have open discussions and ask questions about their mental and physical health issues.

BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas — On April 9, the Brazos County Health Department will host MENtion IT!, an event where men will show up for a cup of coffee and conversation.

“This is a way for the Brazos County Health District to reach out to those in the community that want a little bit more information both in terms of medicine and to keep themselves healthy,” explained Dr. Ben Elizondo, Brazos County Medical Director.

April is national minority health month and the health department is looking to use this time to raise awareness to common issues among people of color in the community.

“This is an opportunity for all men but in particular those in certain population that might be at higher risk for certain diseases and conditions, so this is a good opportunity to reach out to those groups,” Dr. Elizondo said.

This event will be held by male medical professionals and will allow men to have open discussions and ask questions about their mental and physical health issues.

“We will discuss certain specialty issues for example prostate health colon cancer screenings all those types of things those are some of the topics and we look forward to everyone coming out,” said Dr. Elizondo.

The health department plans to continue having these conversations with men in the community every month.

“We’re gonna have it open to the men for the next meeting to see if there are other issues they want to address,” said Community Health Worker, John Young.
